We are Donald and Liz Polson, and we own Waipuna Farms. We are based on our mostly steep hill country property, just 30 minutes north of Whanganui. Also, under the Waipuna banner are our properties in Raetihi and on Fields Track. We are third generation farmers who take great pride in the way we work. We value relationships with our clients and community, we work to ensure the long-term sustainability of our land and aim to breed highly profitable animals. Waipuna Farms has a great team on board, led by manager Cam Wenn.
Recently, Waipuna Farms teamed up with David (Norm) Alderson and Dr Dani van der Linden of genetics consultancy company ALLIN Solutions. Dani has always been passionate about Highlander genetics, while Norm is focused on marketing and servicing our ram clients. By partnering with ALLIN Solutions we can be nimble, innovative and in the best position to meet your expectations and requirements.

Waipuna Maternal
Waipuna Maternal is the new name for our Highlander genetics. The Highlander breed was introduced to the market in 2000, and its original base was Finn, Texel and our Waipuna Romney. This combination, along with the ability to introduce other breed genetics, has given us a greater opportunity to make faster genetic gain to improve profitability on hill country.
The main objective of the Waipuna Maternal is to build a productive and resilient ewe, that can get in lamb from a hogget onwards, rear good lambs at weaning and is resilient to FE and worm challenges.

Waipuna Terminal
Waipuna Terminal is the new name for Primera genetics. Primera genetics have been developed from a comprehensive progeny test over many years and more lately combined with Lamb Supreme and re-named Focus Prime. The Waipuna Terminal is a pure multiplier flock with only very special sires used. No genetic recording is done which enables us to produce rams at very competitive prices. Our clients love these rams.

Ram Sales
Each November we have Waipuna Maternal and Waipuna Terminal 2th Rams for sale. Many have been used for mating with Waipuna’s commercial ewes and have been thoroughly tested. Then each March, our Ram hoggets are for sale.
Our Farm
Waipuna Farms is made up of a mix of steep hill country and river flats, allowing our rams to perform under all conditions.
